The BIG Difference
3/3/2021 UPDATE:
Throughout the past year we have been working hard to make sure we have a clean, healthy environment for our swimmers, family members, and staff. The document on the Schedule & Pricing button explains what will remain the same, and what will change when we reopen for Spring Session. Please take the time to read through it, as there are new procedures in place, and new guidelines to follow. Most of these are the same as they were last summer:

- 1 parent/guardian allowed per family, Parent-Tot may have 2
- come dressed to swim, leave wearing swim suit
- no locker rooms except bathroom emergencies & Parent-Tot
- face coverings required for ages 2+ when not in the pool, including Parent-Tot parents
- maintain 6’ social distance
- bring your own goggles & water bottle
- classes end 5 minutes early for cleaning
- limited capacity
- stay home if you’re feeling ill or have a fever
- no parents/guardians during swim team

If you have any questions, please let us know!

1/11/2021 UPDATE:
We are excited to announce that we will resume our “normal” swim lessons beginning March 7th with our Spring Session! General public registration for our long, 12-week Spring Session will begin on Monday, February 1st. If you are interested in pre-registering for the upcoming Spring Session, please send us an email with your preferred day/time/instructor and we will help you find a spot. Email is the best way to reach our office staff, as they are only in the office checking the phone once or twice during the week. Our email address is LittleStrokesSwim@gmail.com. We are building the schedule based on requests, in the hopes that everyone can find a spot perfect for their family! Please keep in mind that most of our instructors can teach all level classes, so feel free to put your children in the same class together even if they are in different levels.

The cost for this 12-week long session will be $204 for Parent-Tot, $294 for Age Group Lessons, and $324 for swim team. Since this is a longer than normal session, you may choose to pay for the session in 2 payments. The first payment is due before lessons start on March 7th, and the second is due by April 17th.

When we reopen for lessons, we will still have these same rules and regulations in place:
- Maintain 6’ social distance
- Masks required for ages 2+
- Classes end 5 minutes early for cleaning
- Bring your own goggles
- One parent/guardian per family
- One-way traffic through the facility
- Wait outside until the doors open for your class
- Come dressed to swim as locker rooms are closed except for bathroom emergencies and Parent-Tot classes

It is our hope to be able to loosen these regulations as the year progresses, and we whole-heartedly appreciate everyone who has diligently followed our strict guidelines. The health and safety of our staff, our swimmers, and their families is of the utmost importance!

In the meantime, we have decided to keep with the current plan of private pool rentals for families/bubbles who still want to get out and enjoy the water in a safe way. Thanks to all of the families who have rented out the pool since Thanksgiving. You have helped us keep our doors open while staying healthy and safe, and we can’t thank you enough. For those of you that haven’t come in for a pool rental yet, it’s not too late to have your own, private family escape! Shoot us an email and we will get you all set up. You can use credits on your account towards a private pool rental, and professional swim lessons instruction is available during rentals as well! The cost is $100/hour and there is a 1-hour minimum reservation. We are currently limited to 10 people from your family, pod, or bubble but that can change if Dane County releases new orders.

Thank you for your continued support, it means the world to us. We’ll get these kids back in the pool soon!

Sincerely, Bill & Rachel Tygum

11/18/2020 UPDATE:

Have the WHOLE POOL to yourself! Little Strokes is now open for private lessons and private rentals! The entire pool will be reserved just for you, as we will only allow one rental at a time. The pool is available for reservations of 1 hour or longer, whether it be for family swim time or socially distanced private lessons. Take advantage of having a lifeguard present, while kicking back and having a beverage pool-side!! Email us to reserve a time! LittleStrokesSwim@gmail.com

11/16/2020 UPDATE:

At this time, we feel it necessary to suspend our group lessons program from Thanksgiving until the end of January. That will allow anyone who had increased contact over Thanksgiving, the holidays, or winter break time to return home, get tested, and quarantine if positive.

During the time between Thanksgiving and when lessons resume in January, we will be momentarily shifting our business model. Our pool will be available to families and swim teams to lease out for an hour at a time. This has been a popular request as most area school pools are shut down, and now that we have a lot of time available, we are happy to provide this service!

What options are there for your family? You can lease the pool by the hour for family swim time, for your small study group to get some exercise, or for your children to have NON-CONTACT swim lessons with a staff member. If your child is able to swim independently (5+ Swimmer, Stroke Development, or Swim Team), our staff will be socially distanced on the pool deck to provide instruction. If your child is unable to swim independently (Parent-Tot, 2-4 Beginner & Swimmer, 5+ Beginner), we ask that you are in the water with your child while our instructor guides you both from the side of the pool.

We hope that much smaller groups of people and fewer employees in the building will help prevent the spread of Coronavirus while still allowing families to enjoy the water. The pool will be available for rental starting November 30th, please email us at LittleStrokesSwim@gmail.com if you are interested in reserving a spot.

GROUP LESSONS REMINDERS
Just a few reminders before you arrive at the pool!

- Each swimmer should come ready to swim, dressed in their swimsuit and wrapped in a towel. Please rinse off and go to the bathroom before arriving at the pool. Locker rooms will not be available for changing, with the exception of Parent-Tot where necessary and in emergency situations. During colder weather, on-deck changing stations will be available for a quick, 1-minute change into warmer clothing. Children and parents/guardians will be allowed into the pool once the previous lesson has cleared out and staff have cleaned.

- Classes will end 5 minutes early to allow for cleaning.

- Each swimmer will provide their own goggles. Goggles are available for purchase at the front desk. We will have sanitized backup goggles available to use in a pinch.

- 1 parent/guardian allowed per family, with the exception of Parent-Tot where you may have 2 if necessary. If you have back-to-back lessons, you may bring both children in. As long as we are under capacity, siblings may come inside provided they sit on the same chair as their parent/guardian.

- While in the parking lot and building, maintain a 6’ social distance from others.

- Everyone ages 2 and up not swimming in the pool is required to wear a face covering of some sort - face mask, face shield, bandanna, etc while in the facility. Reusable, reversible face masks sewn by Mr. Bill’s wife are available for purchase. Disposable face masks are available as needed.

- Swim team swimmers will rotate through dryland exercises and swimming throughout the practice to allow for social distancing. Please fill up your labeled water bottle before arriving to limit use of the water fountain. Parents will not be allowed on deck during swim team as the deck will be used for dryland workouts. Chairs will be provided outside

While some things might be different, here’s what will remain the same:
 We will still have the best professional swim instructors whose passion is teaching children to swim
 We will still have the same proven instruction methods, teaching the 4 competitive strokes
 We will still continue to keep our pool clean with chlorine, UV light filtration, and numerous chemical checks throughout the day
 We will still have fun!

Here are the changes you will notice:
Swimmer Expectations
 Each swimmer should come ready to swim, dressed in their swimsuit and wrapped in a towel. Please rinse off and go to the bathroom before arriving at the pool. Locker rooms will not be available for changing, with the exception of Parent-Tot where necessary. Children and parents/guardians will be allowed into the pool once the previous lesson has cleared out and staff have cleaned.
 Each swimmer will provide their own goggles. Goggles are available for purchase at the front desk. We will have sanitized backup goggles available to use in a pinch.
 Swimmers will stay near their parent or in a spot suitable for social distancing when not swimming in the water. We will maintain social distancing between swimmers during lessons.
 Swim team swimmers will rotate through dryland exercises and swimming throughout the practice to allow for social distancing. Please fill up your labeled water bottle before arriving to limit use of the water fountain. Parents will not be allowed on deck during swim team as the deck will be used for dryland workouts. Chairs will be provided outside.
 Celebrations and rings will be limited; Parent-Tot toys and magic carpet rides will be eliminated for the time being. Parents are allowed to bring in one small toy to Parent-Tot class for their child to use if they would like.
 Classes will end 5 minutes early to allow time for swimmers and parents to leave the pool, and for staff to wipe down frequently touched surfaces between classes.
 Swimmers will leave the facility still in their swimsuits, wrapped in a towel, using the marked exit in the pool area.

Parent/Guardian Expectations
 If you or someone in your house is sick, feels unwell, or has a fever, please stay home.
 1 parent/guardian allowed per family, with the exception of Parent-Tot where you may have 2 if necessary. Parents and guardians in the Parent-Tot classes will remain in the same place in the pool throughout the lesson, instead of moving around freely. The instructor will evenly space out the pairs of Parent-Tots.
 Everyone not swimming in the pool is required to wear a face covering. Reusable, ecofriendly face masks sewn by Mr. Bill’s wife are available for purchase.

Parent/Guardian Expectations continued
 While in the parking lot and building, maintain a 6’ social distance from others.
 We ask that you sanitize your hands before entering and before leaving the building. While we will have some hand sanitizer available, please bring your own if possible since supplies are limited.

Employee Expectations
 Employees will take a COVID-19 test every 2 weeks
 Temperature checks will be performed before each shift
 Employees are required to stay home if they exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19 or feel unwell
 Employees are required to wear a face covering and will try to maintain 6’ social distance when interacting with parents & guardians outside of the pool. Instructors will wear a clear face shield while teaching lessons.

Facility Expectations
 Chairs have been reconfigured to allow for social distancing
 Locker rooms will remain closed with the exception of Parent-Tot classes needing to change diapers.
 One-way traffic will be indicated on the floor, and everyone will exit from the door in the pool. Please follow the signs posted throughout the facility.
 Staff will clean and sanitize the facility throughout the day, and will wipe off chair arms and other frequently touched surfaces between lessons.

For years the basic standard of teaching swimming answered only to the system designed and executed by the Red Cross. However, the top-tier swimming that is found at the competitive levels has evolved well beyond what this system has to offer its students. The cutting-edge fluid mechanics of the strokes that are so readily evident in the Olympic competitions are lost upon this system of teaching. The techniques that the Olympians use, however, are every bit as applicable and useful to a two-year old as they are to a top level athlete, and as a benefit, the more a child understands about how to move efficiently in the water the safer he or she is. Bearing these things in mind, the answer becomes clear: change the system of instruction to reflect the latest understanding of what is the most efficient way to swim.

Founded by former athletes and coaches, Little Strokes has effectively done this with a unique progression system developed from years of teaching, combined with Little Strokes open secret: the most experienced and qualified instructors in the business. Being able to boast teachers who are themselves; athletes, coaches, and teachers, means that the instructors not only have the tools to teach the science of swimming, but the fundamental understanding to realize its potential in every child.
